This award-winning project, located in the heart of the Peninsula, exemplifies the kind of thoughtful design and technical execution that defines our work. From curb to porch, every element was designed to create a seamless blend of structure, sustainability, and style.
The challenge
Our client wanted a welcoming, low-maintenance front yard that would feel elevated without being ostentatious. The space had to reflect the elegance of the home’s architecture, while also solving several key challenges: privacy from the street, proper drainage, and cohesive transitions from hardscape to planting.
The solution
This project was a true collaboration between landscape designer Dawn Engel and our team at Opulands. We installed a bold yet elegant curved retaining wall clad in dry-stacked natural stone, complemented by custom-built columns, sleek black metal railings, and a crisp travertine-style paver walkway that guides guests to the front door.
To tie the hardscape into the living landscape, we incorporated layers of Mediterranean-style plantings and drought-tolerant groundcover, all irrigated by a smart, water-efficient system. Discreet low-voltage lighting highlights trees and architectural features at night—adding a layer of magic after sunset.
What began as a blank slate is now a front yard that anchors the home with presence and polish. The symmetry, textures, and thoughtful transitions between materials make this landscape feel timeless. It’s a project we’re proud of not just for its aesthetics, but for the precision and collaboration it required to bring to life.
