Native bee & butterfly gardens

Pollinator-friendly compositions rooted in California's native ecology, designed to evolve with the seasons.

A Delight to Behold and a Shelter for Pollinators, Birds, and Butterflies

Picture birds, butterflies, and bees feeding from the pollen of the vividly colored plants in your garden. The image is unmistakably beautiful. These gardens are a delight to behold.

As importantly, these gardens provide shelter and nourishment to local pollinators.

Welcome to the world of California native gardening and the home to more native species than any other state in the country. That’s right. Native plants are perfectly suited to California’s climate, soil, and wildlife.

California native garden

We can help you choose the right plants for the requirements of your specific environment so that you experience nature’s abundance in your own backyard. When you garden with native plants you are restoring nature, protecting pollinators, and nurturing wildlife.

California native plants are beautiful. They help save water, reduce yard maintenance and pesticide use, and invite beneficial pollinators. With the environmental benefits and beauty, the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) and the National Pollinator Garden Network (NPGN) are encouraging people to plant these specialty gardens to protect the state’s unique biodiversity.

Imagine filling your garden with the flowers pollinators are looking for. Plants with simple, sunflower-like blooms, such as coneflowers, black-eyed Susans, asters and zinnias, generally provide both pollen and nectar. Flowering herbs, such as lavender, are also excellent additions.

Did you know that flower shapes and colors matter to pollinators as much as they do to you and me. Bees prefer white, yellow, and blue blooms. Birds are drawn to red, orange, and white color. Bright, vivid colors, including red, yellow, and purple, draw butterflies. Butterflies and bees favor flat, open blooms with big petals for easy landings and short nectar tubes for easy eating. Tubular, trumpet-shaped blooms, like honeysuckle and lobelia flowers, are the favorites of hummingbirds. Long hummingbird beaks allow these birds to reach nectar that insects and other birds can’t.

Designing with native plant gardens requires special expertise. We have that expertise and can integrate a native garden into the overall design of your outdoor space.

In fact, if you have ample room in your outdoor space to include a native garden, we can design, build, and obtain certification from the National Wildlife Federation for a backyard wildlife habitat in your outdoor space.

Our process

01
Consultation
We evaluate the site, understand how the space is meant to be used, and identify any structural, grading, or access constraints early.
02
Design & technical planning
Before construction begins, layouts, material selections, elevations, and drainage strategies are resolved to ensure clarity across all trades.
03
Construction
Execution is coordinated across trades with a focus on sequencing, alignment, and material precision. Every joint, transition, and system is installed with long-term performance in mind.
04
Completion
We review all systems, make final adjustments, and ensure the space performs as intended—both visually and functionally.
